CommBank Car Giveaway Scam: Fake Social Media Competition Ads

Sponsored social media ads pretending to be CommBank promise customers a chance to win a car, then send them to a fake NetBank page to steal their log on details.
What the scam looks like
Scammers are running sponsored ads on social media that pretend to come from CommBank. The ads claim eligible CommBank customers can win a vehicle in a giveaway or competition.
Clicking the ad leads to a fake NetBank page that asks for your log on details, personal information or other sensitive details.
What to watch out for
- Competitions or giveaways promoted in social media ads that use CommBank’s name or logo.
- Any ad that sends you to a page asking you to log on to NetBank.
- Prizes that seem too good to be true, especially with a deadline to enter.
What to do
- Don’t click links in social media ads to reach NetBank.
- Use the CommBank app, or type commbank.com.au into your browser, to check any competition you see.
- If you entered your details after clicking an ad, call CommBank on 13 2221 immediately.
Where to report it
- Send details of the ad to hoax@cba.com.au.
- Report the ad to the social media platform using its report option.
- Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
