'Westpac-Group Australia' Scam: A Business Falsely Claiming to Be Westpac

A business calling itself "Westpac-Group Australia" claims to be linked to Westpac and asks for payments or sends people to a fake website. It is not Westpac.

What the scam looks like

Westpac has warned about a business operating under the name “Westpac-Group Australia”. It claims to be associated with Westpac, and may ask you to make a payment or direct you to a website that looks official.

It has no connection to Westpac.

What to watch out for

• Businesses using a name close to Westpac’s, but not one of Westpac’s own brands.
• Requests to pay money, or to send it to an account you haven’t dealt with before.
• Requests for passwords or security codes. Westpac won’t ask for these.

What to do

• Check a business independently before paying, using contact details you find yourself.
• Don’t share your Online Banking password or security codes with anyone who contacts you.
• If you’ve already paid, contact Westpac straight away.

• Email details to hoax@westpac.com.au.
• Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
