Current Westpac scams
- Westpac Email Scam: 'Verify Your Details or Online Banking Will Be Restricted'Scam emails pretending to be Westpac warn your Online Banking will be restricted unless you verify your details by a deadline, then link to a fake site.
- 'Westpac-Group Australia' Scam: A Business Falsely Claiming to Be WestpacA business calling itself "Westpac-Group Australia" claims to be linked to Westpac and asks for payments or sends people to a fake website. It is not Westpac.
How to tell if it’s really Westpac
Westpac says it will never:
- ask you to verify your identity by clicking a link in an email or text message
- ask for your Online Banking password, card PIN or security code (CVC)
- ask for an Online Banking security code sent to you by text, token or the app
- ask you to install remote access software, or to sign in to Online Banking while someone else has access to your device
- ask you to leave your card in your letterbox for collection
Westpac’s genuine website is westpac.com.au. Type it in yourself or use the Westpac app rather than following a link.
If you’ve already clicked or paid
Contact Westpac straight away using the details on its website or in the app, and change your Online Banking password.
