NAB Fake Audit Email Scam Targeting Business Customers

Emails posing as a NAB credit review or internal audit ask businesses for details of outstanding invoices, sometimes quoting a forwarded message from their banker.

What the scam looks like

NAB has warned business customers about emails that pretend to be part of a credit review or an internal audit. The email asks for information about outstanding invoices and other business details.

To look genuine, some versions appear to forward an earlier message from your NAB banker.

What to watch out for

• An unexpected email asking for invoice or business information for an “audit” or “review”.
• A message that seems to be forwarded from your banker, but arrives without any contact from them.
• Requests to reply quickly or to send documents.

What to do

• Don’t reply or send any information.
• Check with your banker directly, using a phone number or email you already know, not one from the message.
• If you’ve already shared information, call NAB on 13 22 65.

Where to report it

• Forward the email to phish@nab.com.au, then delete it.
• Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
