Australia Post Text Scam: 'Driver Couldn't Find a Safe Place for Your Parcel'
Reported September 2026
A high volume of scam messages by iMessage and RCS claim a driver couldn't leave your parcel and ask you to reply or click a link to arrange redelivery.
What the scam looks like
Australia Post is seeing a high volume of scam messages sent through iMessage and RCS (the chat-style messages on Android). They appear to come from a delivery driver who couldn’t find a safe place to leave your parcel, and ask you to arrange redelivery or collection from a pickup point.
A message of this kind might read something like:
Your parcel could not be left as no safe place was found. Reply Y and open the link to rebook delivery.
Other versions ask you to update your address or shipment details.
What to watch out for
- Messages asking you to reply, for example with “Y”. Replying can make your phone treat the sender as a trusted contact, so the scam link becomes clickable.
- Messages marked “Unverified”, or from unfamiliar phone numbers or email addresses.
- Links to “track a parcel” or “collect a prize”.
What to do
- Don’t reply and don’t click the link.
- Get delivery updates through the AusPost app with notifications turned on, and turn off SMS notifications.
- If you entered card details, call your bank straight away. IDCARE (1800 595 160) offers free identity support.
Where to report it
- Email a screenshot to scams@auspost.com.au.
- Use Report Junk (iPhone) or Report spam (Android) in your messaging app.
- Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
