ANZ Recruiter Scam: Fake Job Offers From Gmail Accounts

Scammers are posing as former ANZ recruiters, using stolen identities and free email accounts, to contact job seekers and steal their personal details.
What the scam looks like
ANZ has warned that scammers are pretending to be people who used to recruit for ANZ. They use stolen identities and free email accounts such as Gmail to contact job candidates by text, email or phone, sometimes pointing to websites that look official.
The aim is to collect your personal and financial information, or to get money from you, under the cover of a job application.
What to watch out for
- A recruiter contacting you from a free email address such as Gmail rather than an ANZ address.
- A job approach you didn’t apply for.
- Requests for identity documents, bank details or payments early in the process.
What to do
- Pause before you respond, and don’t share personal or financial details until you’ve checked who is contacting you.
- Look up ANZ’s careers information yourself on anz.com.au rather than using links in the message.
- If you’ve shared bank details, contact ANZ straight away through the ANZ App.
Where to report it
- Message ANZ in the ANZ App, or forward suspicious emails to hoax@cybersecurity.anz.com.
- Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au, or to ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au.
