Current myGov scams
- myGov Robocall Scam: Automated Calls Claiming Illegal Activity in Your NameAutomated calls pretending to be myGov claim illegal activity was committed in your name and tell you to press 1, then scare you into paying money.
- myGov Text Scam: Any myGov Text With a Link Is FakeScam texts pretending to be myGov offer refunds, payments or account fixes through a link. Genuine myGov texts never contain a link.
How to tell if it’s really myGov
- myGov only sends a text message to tell you there’s a new message in your myGov Inbox. A myGov text with a link in it is a scam.
- An email from “myGov” with a link, button, icon or QR code to click is a scam.
- Genuine myGov does not make automated calls threatening you about illegal activity.
Only sign in by typing my.gov.au into your browser or by using the official myGov app.
If you’ve already clicked or shared details
Call the Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk on 1800 941 126 if you opened a link, gave someone your myGov sign in details, visited a fake myGov website or downloaded a fake app.
