ATO Appointment Email Scam: Fake Phone Appointment With a myGov Link

Emails claim an ATO phone appointment has been booked for you and include an attachment linking to a fake myGov sign in page that steals your details.
What the scam looks like
Scammers are emailing people to say a phone appointment with the ATO has been scheduled, with a date, time and appointment type. The email says you need to open an attachment to access services or reschedule.
The attachment contains a link to a realistic fake myGov sign in page, designed to steal your username, password and other personal information.
What to watch out for
- An ATO appointment you didn’t arrange.
- An attachment you have to open to “access” or “reschedule” it.
- Any myGov sign in page reached from an email. The ATO says it never emails attachments with links to a myGov sign in page.
What to do
- Don’t respond, click any links or open the attachment.
- Never enter your myGov details on a page you reached from an email. Type my.gov.au into your browser instead.
- If you entered your details or paid money, call the ATO immediately on 1800 008 540.
Where to report it
- Forward the email to ReportScams@ato.gov.au, then delete it.
- Report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
